In 2021, the Flemish Architecture Institute (VAi) initiated an open call to transform St Hubert Church (Berchem - Antwerp) into a vibrant archive center for architecture and culture. ectv architects (Els Claessens and Tania Vandenbussche) invited Fenikx (Ann Verdonck) and Élise Van Thuyne to conceive a proposal together, that seamlessly integrates the archival facilities and a community space.
The jury selected their innovative and logic approach to shape the new program of this heritage building.

For this project, Élise will contribute her expertise in creative material use and repurposing. The renovation will carefully restore the church's rich history, preserving its unique architectural elements. Some cherished artifacts will play new roles, blending nods to the past into the modern redesign.
Collaborating with artist Rikkert Paauw, Élise will craft new furniture from materials set for reuse during the renovation, blending the church's storied past with its animated future.
