Armoirés
In 2016, Élise presented her first solo exhibition Armoirés at Galerie Frederic Hooft in Ghent.
Three cabinets stood freely, detached from walls and floors, moving between sculpture, architecture, and design.
Each was conceived from the search of stability and proportion, from a refined response to use raw materials. Crafted from compact laminate and steel: they revealed different temperaments through subtle treatments —nickel plated, sanded, oiled or simply left bare. Built up with no use of glue nor screws, they were each conceived as a modular system. Growing more resonant through time and use.
Perforated surfaces filtered the light, casting shifting shadows, creating transparency and reflection. Set against mirrored paneling, cut and polished from old fragments, the cabinets multiplied in view, seen from unknown angles. Familiar forms became unfamiliar, ordinary furniture transformed into something that asks to be seen anew.
Together with photographer and friend
Tine Guns, Élise composed a publication that echoes a similar sensibility.
Armoirés thus became a pivotal exhibition in her career: its language of proportion, light, and material continues to reverberate through her practice today.
